In fine art, there are three categories of artwork - an original, a limited edition reproduction, and an open edition reproduction. The original, because it is one-of-a-kind, is the most valuable and the most expensive. A limited edition, as the name implies, means that a finite number of reproductions will ever be made of the image, and are generally produced on high quality acid-free paper to enhance longevity. (All Timothy Martin limited editions are in editions of just 300 or less and are reproduced on conservation quality paper or canvas.) Open editions, such as posters, have no limit to the number of times they can be reproduced, are produced in large quantities and are inexpensive. Once an original becomes a limited edition, it will not be reproduced as a poster (open edition) because it devalues the limited edition.
We’ve added a Beauty on a Budget category for those who are seeking a lovely and treasured piece of artwork, without a steep price. In this category, you’ll find limited editions - just 300 of each of these images editions will be reproduced - making them a valued addition to any collection. |
Coming soon in this category will be small Timothy Martin originals. Because there can be only one, these small originals will appeal to those who wish to own a one-of-a-kind piece, without bearing the cost of Timothy Martin’s larger originals. Be sure to click on the Limited Editions folder under the Beauty on a Budget heading to see gently priced reproductions. |
